Notice of Essential Roadworks – A533 Runcorn Road, Little Leigh
We have been informed by our operational team that works commencing on Friday 8th May 2026 will begin at the Barnton end of the closure and progress towards the crossroads.
- Start time: 09:30
This later start has been scheduled to help minimise disruption during the morning school drop-off period. - For afternoon school pick-up, access will be maintained from the Barnton end of the closure.
An additional phase has now been introduced for the road lining works, with the following details:
- Week commencing: 18th May 2026
- Working hours: 09:30 – 19:00
Please note that the large yellow information boards on site will display the most up-to-date timings should any changes occur.

We are writing to inform you that we will be carrying out Phase 1 of our surface treatment programme on the A533 Runcorn Road, Little Leigh between the junctions with Warrington Road and Hole House Lane.
To ensure the safety of our workforce and the public, these works will require a full road closure. While the road will be closed to through traffic, we will be maintaining access for local businesses, residents, and the emergency services.
Work Schedule
- Phase 1 (Patching works): Week Commencing 27th April 2026
- Working Hours: 19:00 – 06:00
- Phase 2 (Surfacing Works): Week Commencing 5th May 2026
- Working Hours: daytime hours
- Phase 3: Week Commencing 11th May 2026
- Working Hours: daytime hours
Key Information
- Access & Delays: While the road will be closed to through traffic, access will be maintained throughout the day for residents, local businesses, and emergency services. We have encouraged anyone with specific access or delivery requirements to speak directly to our operatives on-site, who will do their best to assist and minimise delays.
- Diversion Routes: please see attached document showing both diversion routes for the closure.
- Proactive Engagement: We are currently notifying businesses and residents along the route to ensure they can plan around the daytime closures. We have asked that all vehicles are removed from the carriageway by 09:30 on the scheduled mornings.
- Weather Dependency: As these works are weather-dependent, dates may shift at short notice. The large yellow information boards on-site will carry the most up-to-date timings should any amendments be necessary.
- Noise: There will be some noise during working hours from machinery and mandatory reversing alarms. We appreciate the community’s patience while we work to complete these essential improvements.
- Pedestrian Access: We aim to maintain pedestrian access throughout the duration of the works.
